I've been looking into the Colt ACR, a rifle based on the M16 that though never officially adopted by the US Army beyond testing in the ACR program, was very influential anyways. For example, the optical sight it used would enter production as the Elcan M145 rifle and machine gun sights, the retractable stock would form the basis for the M4 Carbine's stock (and basically every other retractable AR-15 stock), and the muzzle brake it used formed the basis for the Knight's Armament MAMS brake.
Hence, my question: how was the brake installed on the ACR? It looks like it uses a barrel jacket like the Sudan and Portugal pattern AR-10s used. I'm wondering how it was/would be removed for cleaning/maintenance?
