Currently, this is the importation/production/price data for the CETME Model S (Sport), imported by MARS EQUIPMENT CORP.:
Importation
- imported 03-11-65 through 02-18-71 (late 1960’s/B-Series , C-Series and some S-Series; early 1970’s/S-Series)
- purportedly, (discussed below), there were 1,258 imported into the U.S. (B-Series/3 prototypes), C-Series (1- production model submitted to BATF; retained by BATF for comparison with later production models of the CETME Sport Rifle; U.S TREASURY DEPARTMENT/INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE letter of 06-09-65), and S-Series/1,254- 854 pre-68/400 post-68)
Discussion: Because the current S-Series serial numbers run S-02102* through S-02729* (@ 629 known samples), I believe that only the B-Series (3- 2 confirmed), C-Series (1- 1 confirmed), and S-Series/854 pre-68 were actually imported.
Production
- (1959) MARS Equipment Corporation asks CETME to consider whether it would be possible to prepare a Sporting and Target Rifle, with initial prototypes becoming available in (1962); after modification and further refinement, a subsequent prototype model was standardized as the Model “Sport” (1965); first production models, S-XXXXX* (1966)
- MARS production model “Sport” was produced at the CETME development facility in Madrid, Spain (not the Toledo main plant); Military CETME was manufactured at Empresa Nacional de Santa Barbara de Industrias Militares (or National Business for Santa Barbara Military Industries) in Toledo, Spain.
Price
- $220.00 (MSRP) for rifle with wood forearm (1969); 2 5-round magazines (standard); 20-round magazine (optional/$7.00 then $9.50); web sling (standard); leather sling (optional/$3.95); field cleaning kit (standard); steel forearm/bipod (optional/$24.95); retractable metal stock (optional/$49.95); scope rings (optional/$12.00); magazine loader (optional/$3.95)
