Some of you may have seen my thread in the non HK Firearms sub forum about no model marking on my K3P, and PTR confirmed that the model is indeed not marked anywhere on the gun.
I would like to SBR It soon, but the manufacturers info submitted on form 1 must be engraved/marked on the gun.
It is legal for me to engrave the model along with my name, city and state?
I’m sure I’m not the first person to SBR one of these.
I’ve personally never seen a commercially made firearm without a model marked on it.
If there’s any doubt about this I’ll email the tech branch. Thanks.

The important thing is the Serial Number.
No alterations Ever.
Other than that, you are directed by the BTAFE instructions, after approval to engrave name ( as on Form) City, State of Tax payer.
For myself , usually use a cheap punch set , as long as it meets BTAFE requirements.
$200 Tax since 1934 ?

Correct.
It just seems odd that the model is not marked on the gun from the factory, and I have to mark it myself.
I’ve just never encountered that before.

The only PTR's that I recall being marked with a model number are the older PTR-91's (J.L.D., PTR.91.INC., and PTR 91 INC. in Farmington, CT.).

I only have 2. A COLT 9mm M4, born as a SBR, dealer did my paperwork and a PCS G3K that they engraved for me during the build under the handguard.

I do not believe it necessary to engrave a model name or model number. I think you are confusing "manufacturer" with "maker". YOU are the "MAKER" of the SBR. It is only your info that must be engraved.

From ATF Form 1....
"Markings: The maker is required to mark the firearm with his or her name, city, and state."

That's all it says.

Yup , that's what it says , no need to do anything more.
If PTR (Precision Target Rifle) is engraved on the rifle , that counts as model .

I suppose that if the OP wanted to engrave a model, he still could. As long as the required markings and a serial number are present, you could engrave Tolstoy' s "War and Peace" on the gun. ATF won't care.
