After waiting and shopping for months and finally finding a KAC optics mount for this thing for a not ridiculous price, I get it all mounted up. And then I realize, when its installed, the left side is right smack dab in the way of being able to bring the charging handle all the way back.
Is this the intended behavior? Or maybe this thing fits differently on a different HK gun? If so, is there a correct part number for a KAC optics mount that works on the 53 size gun and lets the charging handle work like its supposed to.

Can't answer your question, but that rifle and setup are bad arse. ;)

Many years ago I tried that too. The KAC RAS (KAC part # 97198) does fit the HK53, but the RAS optics mount (KAC part # KM99049) is intended specifically for the MP5.

KAC has never made a RAS rail mount with a Picatinny rail top specific to the HK53. (to my knowledge, and I looked for a looooooooong time)

You have one option: modify your KM99049 so that the cocking handle clears.

Take a look at KAC KM99048. This RAS optics mount fits the HK53 and allows proper function as its arms are swept back at a 45-degree angle, clearing the charging handle slot. Unfortunately the KM99048 is designed for the Aimpoint Comp/CompM2/CompM4/PRO line of optics, there is no Picatinny rail top version in this design.

That's nothing that a mill a little time wouldn't take care of. Good idea.
I already measured it and was going to mill it. Determined it would not leave enough material on the left side. The thing is a very night fit, pressing into the handguard and then screwing into place. I think if I milled it in order to make clearance and then pressed it on, it would deform.

And that 30mm mount, it looks like the mount itself will fit and clear the cocking handle. But once you actually mount a red dot, the dot will be really close to the handle and get in the way of my HK-slap action. I think I'm going to use a rail that mounts to the claw mount points back behind the ejection port.

Why not sell it and get exactly what you need to perform the way you want it to?

I went with a midwest industries. Still had to use the mill and make a little slot in the underside of the mount to make it work on this gun.

I'm sure there's a similar knockoff available. And if it were mine, and I wanted it to work on my particular setup....it'd visit the mill. That's what I do on all my car and firearms projects.

Well keep in mind it was designed for MP5...Im using B&T 212433 on my PCS 53 and am very happy.

Besides the b&t is way cheaper, and you can get it easily from their official webstore bt-parts.com for $199

The issue isnt the handguard. Its the optic mount that attaches to the handguard.
Does B&T make an optics mount for their handguard? I could get down with that if they do.

Sorry I mixed it up a little...I meant the whole KAC setup was designed for the MP5, while its not bad the mount wont work for the 53 without permanent mods.

So I thought you might as well go with B&T and use a separate optic mount, don't need to pay for the collecting premium too :D
