What up T?
Rifle.....Remington .308 Remington 700 SWS {2Lb trigger pull adjustable}
Harris bi-pod
S&B scope
You can drive nails with this thing at 500 yds.
Of course it's OK.Is it ok if there is some blood in the picture? 3 point mule deer (3 on each side) 420 yard shot. One shot, made it about 20 yards before piling up with the picture I'll post if it's ok. Rifle. Savage McMillan FCP 10. It started life as a 308 (I bought it new) after about 8000 rounds and shooting match's. I personally screwed a rock creek match 260 Remington barrel on it. My friends call it the laser now. sitting on top of it is a NightForce NXS 5.5x22 held down with a Nighforce rail and NightForce rings. AAC can hanging on the front of it
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 308. I've introduced several people into long range shooting, when they ask what rifle to get I suggest the 308. They say, but that's not what you shoot. I just kinda chuckle and say you will learn way more about reading wind with a 308. I'm really glad I started with a 308. It taught me a lot. If you don't know what a 260 Remington is. It's a 308 case necked down to 6.5mm bullet, just like the 243 is a 308 case necked down to a 6mm bullet. At a match several years ago I hit 3 out of 5 shots at a mile. 1760 yards with the 260. My friend and shooting partner at this match is an awesome shot and was shooting his 308, still shooting it made zero hits at a mile. I know I just took this to a different level. out to about 500 yards the 308 hits harder. I killed an elk at 475 yards when mine was a 308. One shot, one killDespite many of the newer “wonder cartridges,” the .308 is still a hammer. Hunter Africa a year and a half ago and harvested some BIG plains game with .308- devastatingly effective.
Thanks for the OK. Just didn't want to offend or freak anyone out.Of course it's OK.
That is some very helpful information. .243 is also one of my favorites, but I'm probably going to look into the .260. I'm good out to 1000 yds with the .308.....just ran out of real estate to test further. And you are correct.....I've shot tracers {good ones....} and you can watch the wind move the bullet. I did the same with the MR556 with 416 upper/suppressed, but that thing to 500 yards, moved all over the place.There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 308. Rifle info is in post #7. I think I screwed the 260 barrel on about 10 years ago. If I was going to do it again now, I'd go with the 6.5 Creedmoor. The case is shaped just a little different, better neck angle and you can get about a grain more powder in it. What is your set up on the .260? Thanks for the info....learn new things every day.
Cheers!!!!
