Hard to say without seeing the paperwork, but this kind of thing does happen. Some MR223 imports have been remarked or converted and end up on NFA forms as 416 variants, depending on how they were registered or rebuilt. The key is whether the receiver markings, serial range, and supporting docs all line up. I’d ask for clear photos and provenance before jumping in—probably not underhanded, but definitely worth verifying carefully.
