Anyone know 9mm P7 family parts compatability differences?

Would an M13 extractor work on a P7 and vice versa? If anyone has a list or site they can point me to to determine what does and doesn't work, it would be appreciated. Of course mags are different, as are mag releases and apparently a P7 piston assembly won't be compatible with any other P7 family. In any case, I found a small lot of parts and want to get rid of what I can't use and would probably just sell here for cash, rather than string everyone around for an auction.

Unfortunately there is no quick answer for this question. Some parts are interchangeable and some are not. The piston for the P7 is not interchangeable with the M series (M8, M10, M13). The extractors are interchangeable, but not withe the P7K3s. The plunger and spring that go behind the extractor are not interchangeable, but the P7 plunger and spring can be modified to fit the M series. En lieu of writing a very long post, please ask specific questions and I will be happy to answer them.

I'll have to look at my grab-bag, but it includes firing pins from an M13 and a slide stop lever for the same, which I would expect is different. Will an M-series barrel work on the P7?

Yes and No. A P7M8 barrel is interchangeable with a P7. A P7M13 has a wider mouth, but will usually work fine. A P7M10 (.40 S&W) barrel will fit in a P7, but it will function correctly and would be dangerous.

I had actually never considered, until this very moment, the possibility of a .40 P7.
I’m not saying a .40 cal P7 is impossible, but it would certainly take a lot of work. The barrel would fit with now problem. The back of the breach of the slide could be milled out 1mm. According to the an American HK engineer, the mass of the slide is capable of handling a 40 cal round. Here is the tricky part. A .40 cal round is to wide to fit into a P7 magazine. You would have to build slightly wide magazine AND widen the mag well.

I think it would be much cooler to have a P7M10 with the standard slide instead of the beefed up heavy slide. A P7M13 could be modified to shoot a .40 S&W round without a ton of work. This is exactly what HK did for their prototype P7M10s before one of the German engineers decided the .40 cal cartridge needed a heavier slide.

They should've added tungsten weights.

Excellent information. ;)

Agree that this is probably the better of the two paths to go down. The appeal of having something "steamier" than 9mm in single stack though.......

At the end of the day I think that while the idea of gunning the platform up to .40 is interesting, the path "down" is worth considering as well. By this I mean necking the 9mm down to 7.65mm.

Consider that the original loading for the 7.65x21 (9x19 parent case) is a 95gr at 1250 fps. I think some interesting things could be done with a 60gr solid copper DPX projectile at a bit higher than that. 1600 fps just on the face of it, dropping those 35gr of mass, and maybe more, I'm just SWAG'ing this. 1800fps possible? And as far as I can see, it would be a simple barrel swap to any P7 series, so now you could have your choice of single or double stack.

A P7M10 or a P7M13 chambered in .357 Sig would be fairly easy. All you would need to do is modify the barrel and use P7M10 mags. I would also recommend swapping the main spring on from the standard 21 to a 22 pound main spring if you are using the thinner/ less mass slide of a the P7M13.
