I carry a Kimber 1911 Ultra Carry with an extra mag (Yes, 1911 because I’m old).
1911, because that what I am most comfortable and proficient with and also what I was trained on. 7+1 with an extra 7 in a spare mag.

My question is what do you carry and Do you or dont you carry an extra mag or more?
I would really like to hear the reasoning as to why as well.

thanks,
M.

I used to carry an Ultra TLE, but switched to a Micro 9 and recently bought an EVO SP. Sometimes I have an extra mag on me, but always have more in the Tacoma.

I found that I shoot Kimbers better than my Hk's and now only have a USPc 9. That's mainly my get home bag gun.

So I have a mag in the truck, and an extra one in my jean key pocket, its the perfect size for 1911 mags.
They are times I carry a full size Kimber stainless TLE 2, depending on what I’m wearing (jacket= Sholder hoLester, Big baggy shirt= IWB). The extra mag is in case the threat is not stopped with the first and also in case of mag failure.
Multiple threats and I feel my survival chances will plummet.
I have heard of a LEO in Indiana that survived a shootout after expending 2 and 1/2 mags and now carries 145 extra rounds, and a backup pistol as well.
I seriously doubt I would be in a situation like that, but it makes me wonder how many extra mags should one carry and also... would i be able to reload and stay alive.

Yes if I’m carrying my standard P7. No if I’m carrying my P7M13.

Makes sense.

Years ago when I was deployed, I carried 180 rounds of 5.56 and 45 rounds of 9mm on my vest, 30 and 15 in each well and another bandoleer of 180 5.56 as a grab and go, should I ever needed it.

Thankfully, I never did.

On the person--- generally not--- if I can't accomplish with 12 rounds, then shame on me. :)
In the vehicle--- maybe 1 or 2 extra--- never know when one may enter a nest. ;)

Also, on a side note, I love the 1911--- y'all know that I don't like newly-manufactured, but if HK GmbH were to make an "HK1911" (double stack magazine), then I would acquire, against my better judgment. :ROFLMAO:

Years ago, I watched a smart man try and re-assemble his 1911 after cleaning it during our CPL class. My USP Tactical went back together blind-folded. Any positive virtues of the 1911 were lost on me that day. Not a hater, just not as smart as that guy. :)

When I was carrying a single stack-be it a 1911 or Sig P225A1 I always carried 2 reloads. Did I need to? No but it was engrained in me to do so by old timer LEO’s I was taught to shoot by.

Now that I carry a Gen5 Glock 19 I carry 16 in the gun and a 17 round reload. Do I need 33 rounds? Sure hope not but I’m of the opinion better to have and not need than need and not have. Besides it doesn’t hurt to have a backup plan lol

My thoughts are similar. If I haven't fixed the problem with one mag, I should have left beforehand.

Most times I do carry an extra loaded mag on me and I always have a loaded mag in my center console of my pickup.

My VP9SK/T1C Axis Slim is actually more stable and comfortable than holster only (single clip). I've driven cross-country several times with this rig.

Yes, always. I use a Comp-tac single mag holder on my off side. My most carried pistols are a P30 and a USP45, both with light LEM triggers. I rarely carry more than one spare mag unless I am at a class or something like that.
