Hi Tony,

I was wondering if you have any information on G3 SG1 production years and markings. (Or if I've missed the relevant post that covers this, perhaps someone can direct me to it.)

As best I can tell, SG1s started to be marked "G3 SG1" with IE / 1984 date codes. Prior it seems some were marked "G3" and others marked "G3 FS", but I'm not sure the details there.

Particularly wondering when SG1 production stopped, or at least a lower bound on when it stopped. Were they were still being produced in 1989?

Cheers

Welcome to the site. 😀
The HK G3 SG1 was introduced in 1972 (following the Munich Massacre), and was replaced by the HK PSG1, introduced in 1983. :)
Here are the samples that I have seen: :giggle:

HK PSG1

The HK G3FS (Freischwinger- Free Swinger) is not a sniper rifle--- the "FS" markings were applied to G3 rifles that were updated to the forearm hanger on the cocking tube, as the G3 was originally manufactured with the old style of cocking tube that fit into the triple frame. ;)

Thanks for the information Tony! So I wonder if there were any produced after 1986...

Here is a G3 FS that also appears to be an SG1 -- but I cannot say if it just had the SG1 accessories moved onto it later.

Probably converted to SG1 configuration. :)
This G3FS is dated 1960--- the G3 SG1 was not introduced until 1972. ;)
My guess is that no more G3 SG1's were made after 1986, since the PSG1 replaced it in 1983.

Ahhh, that makes sense, I see now that it is a 1960. It originally read “1980” to my eyes. Thought it was very unusual to be marked that instead of IA! Thanks again.
