I'm having an email conversation with a local member of the board, and he suggested I post this, as a thought provoker. I've never had any issue with being un-filtered, so here it is. Thoughts and banter, please.....

No problem Robert

I’m kinda off the radar, these days…but will check it out. The internet isn’t as “human” friendly, as in the past. “Rise of the Machines” and all that sorta stuff.

I’m a tech-retard, and know nothing of the lingo and makeup of websites. Hell, I hated losing my old flip-phone. I also am only into the older HK stuff. I think the USP hasn’t been improved upon, and all models since… are like all the shiny bobbles of everything else in this world. I hate that HK decided to build their own Glock, just for market growth. I believe it has killed the mystique of being an HK owner. I see lots of [I don’t know what word to use] beings with VP pistols, that think they’ve bought a 9mm/stainless/Match. It's not a snob thing, as much as it's I don't like being just a random guy in the herd. It puts me off from the traditional world of being an HK owner. They kinda lost me with the AR platform, also. But, I guess craftsmanship is as old as myself. I kinda wish I’d received this yesterday, as I just sent money to HKPRO. I hadn’t been there in some time....and missed all the drama.[more modern behavior]

I hope this plays-out well, and a new site can restore my interest in website banter….

Mike,
You and I are kindred spirits.

THE big difference between us is that I actually got my first degree in 1981 and it was an AS degree that said Computer Science and that is all, when no one knew what computers meant at that time.. I was computer ops (hardware) for almost 18 years. Got tired of doing that.

My second degree was an AS degree in gunsmithing ... back in 1998. I did that for about twenty years.

I'm retired now, but again, other than my first career WAS computers and I do understand them on several different levels and I'm my families CSR/TSR for most computer issues in our house. I've built and published several websites. Currently only have two up and running right now. Took the rest of them down, for all sorts of different reasons.

And while I DO understand computers and I've been a moderator on several forums that go back twenty years. But these days, I try and just sit in the background, quietly.

Glad to see you here.

And flip phones are too modern for me. I use a 'brick' phone. NO internet access ON the phone, but it can be a hotspot, which I have not set up. Weighs a lot and is waterproof. I've used this style of phone from this company for about ten years. This one is a second gen brick phone. Love it. Carry it when ever I go out.

Old school (pre-89) firearms are my preference.
This site will get the juices flowing again, and revitalize your interest in HK.

LOL!! I didn't get my first phone till I was in my 40's. Flip-phones were all that was being sold. [I did have a beeper for a job, a decade earlier] I don't use any aps on my new phone, and I didn't have a PC until about 15 years ago. I still operate from a PC, and have never had a laptop or communicated emails by any other means than PC. We still have a land-line, and I ordered my vehicle without any electronics pkgs. All my internet time is on my PC. That's why I vanish for hours at a time. 40-50 years without this stuff?? I don't really need it.

I carried a beeper and a coin purse from my dad for pay phones. The majority of my time working in the compute industry, mainly because I was the ops guy that kept the machines and the information flowing, I was on call 24/7. Mainly I did get late night calls, and I could almost always answer the question and then go back to sleep. MOST times.

And my first personal computer, from my company was a 286 laptop made by SINGER of all companies. I liked it. This was 1990 ish...

I've had several computers since then. Desktops eventually gave way to laptops. I have owned mil spec laptops for more than ten years. My first group of laptops was my by GD and was a GOBook III from Itronix. I even have two milspec tablets that are by the same company. My current one is a Getac laptop. I like it but I may upgrade it to the larger one eventually. Plus I'm going to eventually build a desktop that most folks would never build. But I've just got to build one of them.

Loads of storage, multiple processors, massive main memory, multiple (3+) SSD's to total over 10 TB (maybe more) of storage. And connect it all to a VPN purpose built router to hide the machine from the world. And connect that to at least a one gig modem, once we move I'm looking for faster speed connections.

The wife and I find ourselves discussing Western S. Dakota for our retirement home. Hopefully we will find what we are looking for. THINK "You Live In What?" Looking for some kind of large building that is at least 'dried in' as it were (no leaking roof). Remodel it after we move in ... all the while enjoying our lives.

To bring this thread back on topic @MMissile upgrades to the USP's - nope, you're right, aside from some safety upgrades. But some genius thought it was a good idea to put a long picatinny on the VP9, thus creating what I mockingly call a chin. HK does claim that it is their most successful pistol design ???????

I still put my life into the hands of God and a USP

It's their cheapest. In today's world....cheap rules. Not in my world.

While I'm a big USP fan the VP9 is a great pistol. It is by far the best of the striker fired guns out there. The VP9sk is so much better than any sub compact out there, no comparison. I own a VP9LS, a VP9 and the sk. They are all accurate, smooth and reliable. Much better than the Austrian.

My opinion on this subject matter is this. I think it was smart of them to offer it up. It was a chance to get brand recognition from new HK owners and possibly introduce them to another world they may not have even entertained. There are many out there (Glock owners) that have never owned an HK weapon let alone one of their side arms. And we all know the Glock is the most common "modern" platform out there being referred to as the AR15 of hand guns. The VP9's trigger is arguably the best OTB out there and has a far better grip than the competitor and is an easy gun for possible Glock owner transplants. I myself went from Glock to VP9 and then to P30LEM and will get a P2000 in the future. I may never had done that if not for the VP9.

I approached the firearms hobby differently, and just jumped in, neck deep. My first handgun was a USP40 in 93. Never looked back, and never regretted it. Every other brand has been a let-down of some sort.....and I've had most. I started with HK rifles about 8 years earlier. It's weird that I never had the handgun-bug before that, untill the USP was announced. I left a deposit, and waited.

I like both the old and new HK offerings when it comes to rifles and PCCs. I do however worship at the house of the USP's/P7's when it comes to HK pistols. I've had quite a few of them over the years including the pricey match pistols. I just wish HK had not cheapened out with many of their newer pistols like the VP series. They really kind of ruined the exclusivity of collecting HK's and I think the hobby is poorer off for it.

I'm kind of shocked that they brought the SP5's and the SP5K's to the market. People are able to get into these guns and build the proper variants at a FRACTION of the price that those of us who have been at this for a while paid to do it and it hurt the value of our collections. They are taking away a lot of the mystique that having HK's once had and I really hate that. It used to be a lot more fun to take stuff out of the bags with most people having never seen one before in person. I still get that to some degree but not like the old days.

I also don't understand why HK won't bring some stuff to market that people have been begging to get for years. I'm tired of hearing about the BS import laws... they already have a factory over here... use it for god's sake like the other foreign manufacturers use theirs. I think I will die of old age before they bring the MP7 to market in semi form. Now the progressives Dems are getting ready to kill larger pistols so the window is closing on that. They will now have to offer it as an assault rifle SBR and a new ban will kill that. Yeah I think the days for wishing for that are pretty much coming to an end. I don't hold out much hope for the 433's either... a new ban will kill off that chance too. I think I am pretty much done with my collection except for upgrading to a few more cost no object sighting systems.

The only reason for the SP's, is the fact that they still make sub-guns. The tooling is the same.....with a captive U.S. market.
