The project continues. I replaced the Brownell's 16" barrel with a minty Gen1 heavy profile 10.4. Topped it off with a Vortex Crossfire red dot and a Steiner DBAL i Squared. Not anticipated was the fact that the SureFire flash hider prevents the HK flip up front sight from laying completely flat. Certainly isn't going to be ideal with a SOCOM RC2 suppressor either. So I am contemplating other BUIS options.

I do also like the quality of the ModLite setup so far. On-deck, a Geissele 9.5 hand guard that will require me to do some grinding on the sling loops and a Unity Tactical Dual switch for the laser and light.

Looks great! Here's my recommendation for the front iron sight:

Winner-Winner, I knew there had to be an easy solution. Thank you.

I have one and it took a long while b4 i got it about 5 months ago as they go OOS very fast when they are available.

@flybynt
How well do you like it? I have been on the fence about one for several months now. I really dont like my dbal side mounted but dang it sits high 🤷🏻‍♂️
I put the dbal/leaf combio in front of my flip up front sight which is now located aft a bit to allow for that, I have gone back and forth on thinking if the flip up is now a bit redundant.
I did this so I didn't have to re-mount and futzs with the zero on my flip up iorns if I wanted to remove the dbal, but in reality I have been trying not to take the dbal on/off so they stay folded down. I suppose if my dbal got damaged or something then I would still have a backup set of iorns, but hey lets be honest I am not a police officer or operator in any SF organization so that's highly unlikely.

Since you asked, I bought this setup because it looks high speed low drag and I am only getting into NVG, but in reality I don't like the way the when its mounted on top how the dbal blocks the lower portion of the view through my RDS. I say this because depending on how I acquire the dot or move my head based on position as I change shoulders for moving around corners/barricades I find myself trying to look through the dbal or moving to see more of the target if that makes sense. This in all likelihood is not an issue when using the visible laser or NVG indoors and or low light, but then the LEAF is there for when you're NOT using either of those functions or your RDS goes down. I think its a matter of getting used to it and shooting style when mounted in this configuration, but for me the jury is still deliberating but I am leaning towards removing the dbal when not needed and keeping my flip up iorns mounted as I noted above so I can do that rather than relying on the leaf 🤷‍♂️

What do you do with an extra 416 barrel? Build another HK416 of course. I paid up for a BRN-4 and another BCG (thanks @Mr.Maim). I also received the LEAF front iron sight for the DBAL and need to see how it will co-witness with the red dot.

I'm really liking the Geissele SMR but didn't realize that the rail accessories are mostly vaporware - having to look to China for some rail sets. :oops: Fingers crossed.
