I just pulled the trigger on a UMP clone on gunbroker, a Gideon Shadow. Originally I was thinking about an USC and converting it but the shadow was the price of an unconverted USC and its in a pistol configuration. The thought of a USC with 16” barrel made me cringe.

Youre fine... its your money, so spend it on what makes you happy! I too would rather NOT have a 16” barrel on a UMP.

I’m hoping next week I’ll have it in hand. I’ll definitely follow up with pictures and a range report.

After a long wait, I finally pick up my UMP clone. I’m pretty impressed with it. Can’t wait to take it to the range.
The one issue I had was with the push pin for the barrel. Since this is a Gideon Shadow, in their infinite wisdom decided to use a push pin instead of a roll pin. This left a small amount of play in the barrel. Not much but enough to notice. I already purchased a HK roll prom from HK Parts. Install the proper roll pin and the barrel is rock solid.

Well after my wife handled my new gun. She decided she needed one too. Looks like I’ll be ordering another in 9mm.
 
I love my ump. Its not as smooth as my ap5 but , that's being nit picky.
