I'd spend more time here...

Back in college, a bunch of us made a crew-served crossbow out of steel angle and a huge old rear truck spring.

It was hard to engineer the cocking and trigger mechanism (read: it didn't bend easy), but boy, would it throw a dart made from steel bar stock!

Made a grand "thunk" noise upon firing.
 
In our college studies we used rope torsion springs. Cocked it with a wrench and just cut hold rope to fire.

The cross bow makes me think Robin Hood Men in Tights… so thats a no… unless of course I do it with a taub! :cool::cool::cool:
