Local Color - what's your neck of the woods known for?

Being from the Detroit area, of course we're known as the Motor City and ahem, Hockey Town. But we're also home to Faygo and Vernors soda pop. There are a lot of Michiganders here - what did I miss?

And what's your area's claim to fame?

  3. Sports: Orlando Magic (NBA), Orlando City (MLS), and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL) located in the area.
  4. Space exploration: The Kennedy Space Center.
  5. Nature and wildlife: Alligators, manatees, dolphins, and fishing.

Leinenkugel’s beer. Nothing like Chippewa river water!

Born a half mile from the brewery and my Dad, the local Pastor would make sick calls at the hospital and stop by the brewery afterwards for a complimentary one. They also had little 2oz mugs, so at the ripe age of 4, I could say I was weaned on Leinie’s! 🍺

Locally: Noisy F-35 fighter jets; I so miss the F-16s. Within two hours: Bonneville Speedway (Salt Flats), Wendover (gambling) & historic Wendover Field; home to the 509th Composite Bomb Group that helped end WWII. Within 4 hours: Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Arches, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Moab, Capital Reef, & Canyonlands Natl Parks. Closer by: Lake stink from the Great Salt Lake when the wind blows in from the west. We have (NBA) Utah Jazz and (MLS) Salt Lake Real. Epic snow totals this year up at the resorts; Brighton & Alta ski resorts reported over 800" of snowfall this year; think we're finally out of a several year drought.

Detroit:

Motown Music (before my time though), but don't forget Ted Nugent, Marshall Crenshaw, Iggy Pop and yes - Kid Rock.

Farming! That’s what goes on in my part of Michigan!

Been pretty nice for the last few days. 70's, one day of rain, and not too hot of blazing sun. I actually rode my motorcycle on Sunday.
