First and foremost, I'm not starting a political debate. I was always taught, that there were two things you don't discuss......politics and religion.

So with that out of the way, what's your thoughts on the withdrawal? Personally speaking.....I thought this was a bad idea, but also don't want to see one more person from the military injured or lose their life in this mess. It seems like you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Cheers!!!!!

I work with a young fella who was 82nd Airborne. He spent a lot of time over there. Said he's not surprised by the speedy collapse. Evidently, aside from Afghani special forces, their regular army was a complete joke. They liked to lay around, smoke pot, and drink.

I am surprised by the amount of arms & equipment we left behind. Stuff that will undoubtedly be used against us.

I agree {in bold}....because you know they'll use it against us, their people or anyone who stands in their way.

Agree with your friend too. It's like when the US was going to announce a "timeline" for withdrawal. They were standing there waiting to take over, just like now. My fear is that we've just created a stronger, more united terrorist group.

Well, considering our long presence there was mainly drug related, I think it is great to get our men and women the hell out of there.....I think a great question is are we really leaving? Another great question is why now and why in the fashion we are? Another question is who is really in control of the US military? I am very saddened for all the great US families who gave so much there to see it go up in smoke in the fashion we are witnessing......don't count on msm to provide any useful information

The media is referring to it as {this week}....."a challenge".....not a "disaster". Funny how the media spins things.

Brad, I consider this a historical/current affairs discussion and not political.

I remember learning in grade school that Afghanistan was impossible to invade due to their tenacity and the terrain. I remember America laughing at Russia when they tried to make it theirs I forget when. We went in after 9/11/01 to take out Al Qaeda. We needed to get out of there but I can't say that we did it the right way. All of that said, I will gladly use the disaster to disparage Joe Biden and the Democrats to the full extent of my abilities. The handling (bungling) of this highlights Biden's incompetence and now even the corrupt media is realizing that they can no longer deny it.

Xi and Putin are happy. China probably feels they can take Taiwan, and Russia probably feels they can take Ukraine, without the US getting involved.

How long will they be able to hold out once the T-Ban muster the up-armored hummers and MRaps?

I just cant fathom how we thought it was a good idea to leave all that hardware behind.
Washington had to know about the state of affairs in the Afghan army.

We ought to wait until the evacuations are complete then destroy the runway at Bagram. Just obliterate it.
The parking ramps too.

I agree with your assessment. However {personally} I say turn it into one giant sheet of glass and be done with it. Albeit crude......it's effective.

Furthermore, I waited and waited and waited AND I finally heard those words........"We inherited this mess from the previous administration..."--Biden

Sound familiar???? {i.e., whoops.....I f$cked up. How do I fix this one? Oh yeah.....I remember now.} ;)

I was thinking maybe pull everyone out that wants out and hold them somewhere else in the world. Then obliterate the people who remained and re-introduce those who were evacuated.

Just read an article that said there may be as many as 40000 Americans in Afghanistan.

WTF!?!?
there are approx 3 contractors for every soldier (I believe the current number is actually 2.9 based on the math)

Afghanistan is a failed tribe of humans. Build a wall and keep them away from the rest of civilized society.

I was on that mission in Afghanistan. We escorted a geological team who took samples of the dry lake bed. If China gets access to all that stuff we're screwed.

We gave then 20 years to get their poop in a group, AKA their "golden Age".

It was time to leave.
