So having missed the chance to sell this thing before HK reissued them I find myself wondering what to do with it. As far as I'm aware it's unfired.

A full conversion is out, as I'm not interested in spending the money needed to do it. That leaves: (a) stick it back in the safe and leave it alone, and (b) choot it.

(a) only makes sense if it's going to be collectible some day. With a KK date code I think it might be 1st year. Grey presumably helps collectability just a little.

In support of option (b), I already have the magwell adaptor and a G36 bolt. Working against option (b) are option (a) and the fact that I have plenty of other 556 semiauto rifles to shoot.

So what's the consensus: Will the SL8 ever be a collectible gun?

That one could be--- a first-year model. ;)

I’m no expert, but I don’t see it being a collectors piece. It’s still an HK so there’s that, and it will still be worth something.
I think the value is in having it converted.
I don’t believe the Grey adds value as it appears buyers prefer the black for conversions.
None the less, I think it’s a nice weapon!

Im sorta interested in buying one at some point.

It would serve as a nice hunting rifle.

I have two grey SL8-1 rifles buried somewhere in my basement & have enough parts to get Tommy to do his G36K or G36E magic, but his XM8 conversions may be on the list for both.

One thing not mentioned very much about the SL8 is they have a very nice trigger pull that is only around 9oz higher than a PSG1s'...

Does the factory G36 lower have the same pull as the SL8-1 and is that the same as the SL8-6 as well?

No, the G36 is substantially worse trigger pull that average is just over 8lbs. Even the HK243 trigger pack has horrible trigger pull at 8lbs 7oz; it uses same G36 hammer and trigger spring.

Makes me wonder what a 433's trigger does, given that most who tested said it's great for a mil-spec trigger (basically the same trigger mechanism as the 416 from what I've read). Also, from what I've read and seen, the standard G36 trigger is "ok" as far as mil spec, but is for sure no match trigger.
