I’ve only shot USPSA & Steel Challenge with my SP5 in an A2 configuration.
I am wanting to get formal training on the MP5 platform.
The classes I am seeing require a sling, magazine pouches, & sometimes a light.
I currently use Safariland 774 pouches & a magnet for USPSA.
I’m needing suggestions on what accessories I should try first as a total novice in the tactical world.
It’s my birthday month so Midway has given me a pretty good discount & I want to take advantage of it.
Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

For slings…go HK 3 point or HK bungee single point (single point u will need the large single point pin)

For “tactical” mag pouches…I prefer to view them as multipurpose mag pouches and suggest you get 2 pistol and 2 subgun tacos from High Speed gear. The pistol tacos are great with 30 round mags and all pistol mags. The subgun tacos are perfect for 40 round MP5 mags. Be sure you select appropriate belt or molle attachment depending on your gear.

For a light, you just can’t beat a Surefire with touch pad AND the on/off switch….but there are several great lights to choose from.

Thank for the help.
Do you have a preference on the original, lt, duty, or polymer versions? Singles or double?
I’m seeing an extended pistol but not one listed for subgun for the 40 rounders?
It’s looking like I’m going to need a belt too. Any suggestions.
I apologize for all of the questions.

here is the single you want

here is the extended/subgun you want

For a belt....you want a stiff 1.5" belt in your arsenal....need a "stiff" one :) for holster use! One like this below but choices are many with the qualities I mentioned

Awesome. Thanks again.

Starting with a competition setup you're already ahead on the basics. For your tactical class keep things simple. If needed add a weapon light. Your Safariland 774s will still work. You might want to consider something with better retention for movement drills. Comfort is important too. Wearing range clothes like Khul clothes can make long training days easier. You do not need to overthink your gear. Focus, on the essentials first. You can refine your setup after taking a class or two.
