Starting the new project-HK21

Dumping it into the dirt 4 foot away it’s amazing how it made the dirt go flying....I had the phone propped up so I could test it in the back yard.....my neighbors love me.

Here’s the laundry list of things to do for the HK21 build now-

Fit full auto trip lever
Install front sight blade
Install a short section of pic rail up front (want to use a modern bipod)
Grind/dress up welds
Make/install a case deflector (maybe)
Lengthen the cocking handle support (it’s a touch short so it’s hard to open)
Install or make an “assault grip”
Engrave and paint

I’m also going to make a pin and bushing set so I can install this on my 1919 tripod. Still up in the air if I want to put a rail on top for an optic.

IT LIVES!!!!! Had it running great with a semi auto trigger pack. Had to lengthen the ejection port as it was bouncing the cases back into the feed area. I made the opening 3/16” longer and it now runs.....now I have to tune a trip lever for a full auto pack and try that out. I should have it running full by the weekend.....I hope!!

Off to a good start--- keep us updated. ;)

Tony

UPDATE.....well.....I spent the evening in the shop and have some exciting news to report.....the HK21 build has its pic rail mount for the bipod, welds have been ground, ejection port has been tweaked and dressed up, and full auto trip was tuned (more on this in a min) I took it out back at 7:30 pm not realizing how late it had gotten and was able to get a few bursts out of it!!!!! The trip needs tuned just a bit more but it won’t takw much I’m sure....here are some pics of it as it sits now....my poor HK23EK will be happy when the shipment from HKParts shows up so I quit stealing items off it! LOL

Btw forgive the messy bench....I been working on something.

Had to sit it on my 1919 tripod and see how the height would be. Yeah I’m gonna make an adapter to fit these two together. It’s a nice height to shoot from.

I’ve got a timing issue I’m sorting out. On semi it keeps up and does fine but on full or a rapid pace semi, it’s as if the bolt is moving faster than the belt can keep up and the empty case can’t clear the gun fast enough. I’m wondering if that spacer I put in can now be taken out since it’s getting broken in.

The gun wants to run, it’s just sorting out a few little things. I’m going to engrave and paint it today as it’s something simple internally that’s causing this I’m sure. I’ll get to the bottom of it.

I found what I think was the issue on the HK21 feed issue. The feed mech locking tab/release button has a piece missing. The tab that locks it all the way in is gone, which would allow the feed mech to “float” so that can explain the feed timing issue.

With the being found I felt good about engraving and painting the HK21 this morning. I figured I’d have some fun and mark it “Cal 7.62 NATO” just because I could.

As requested.......pics of it all together......going to get that latch on order so I can change that out and shoot it a little. This will be a safe queen most the time as it’s hard on the shooter lol but it’s nice to now have one.
