Suppressor?

I swore I would never buy a can. Seemed kinda silly.

Well...

I've been thinking about getting one for my UMP 45. I know just north of nothing about them. Do they make suppressors that work with multiple calibers?
It would be cool to be able to use it on my 9mm SBR too having already spent the money.
Would I have to make any changes to the UMP? Different bolt, spring?
The regsitration follows the device right? So I can move it from gun to gun?

Are you using a real ump flanges barrel or a cut down usc barrel.

The former uses a caliber specific slotted attachment method since the flanges are a different size per caliber and the can is ump specific.

I have seen many guys add a 3 lug or go direct thread if they are using a usc cut down barrel or aftermarket barrel. There are many shops that can do a good job in this regard and adco comes to mind.

Yes you can use the can on multiple hosts. If you buy a 45 cal can you can use it on your ump in 9mm 40 cal and 45 with the right qd or 3 lug adapter assuming they manufacturer makes one and its available. It will also work with your mp5 if you buy a 3 lug adapter.

I'm just toying with the idea. There are things that I really need to do at the moment. A suppressor aint one of them.

Before you buy that barrel, I had issues with HKP UMP barrels. Tried one, way out of spec. Sent it back. POS.

Here are my notes from that little experience:
“Measured a HK Parts barrel with a thread gauge. It’s not a true 16x1. You can put the gauge on about 4-6 threads on each end and the gauge will match up true, but the gauge will not fit cleanly end-to-end; the gauge teeth don’t match all the way across the threads.

It may be threaded to some weird profile, but its not a clean 16x1 across all threads. We checked my Mark 23 barrel and also my Tommybuilt USC barrel and those are true at 16x1RH.”

@UltraFudd I don't think HKParts.net makes their own barrels. I think they sell HDPS, MM, Omega and GSG9 barrels. Naturally, the HDPS and MM barrels are stellar. I don't know much about Omega's products, but the GSG9 barrels saw a lot of negative feedback about the threads and the 3 lug measurements. I'm guessing your issues above were related to the GSG9 barrels?

I've got bigger fish to fry at the moment. A suppressor is just a silly "gosh that would be cool" sort of thing.

I had a lot of trouble with my Omega gun. I think I posted here about it. I'll look when I get home from work.

Correct. The buggered barrels came from GSG9. They apparently were going with their own spec that didn’t match the ROW, and were supposedly going to manufacture a thread-on 3-lug mount. Never saw one materialize.

No gripes with HDPS or MM stuff. I’ve got one of Mike’s barrels on my SP5K and it’s outstanding.
