I thought the Expert was a good option for anyone who wanted a factory tuned USP and didn't like a threaded barrel or want to run a can on it (and thought the Elite looked like it needed rhinoplasty). I suppose the SS slide models may have been too blingy, but I would've thought they offered the best corrosion resistance.

I'm not a personal fan of stainless being used in firearms. Stainless galls easier than hard carbon steel. You rarely see it used in anything mechanical, that moves a lot. I've seen a couple older, all stainless pistols with LOTS of rounds thru them, kinda loose and worn on the friction areas. I'm really not a fan of blingy either. So, that's a bias right there. I had all the Stainless HK's, just because they were part of the "collection". I only shot one of my Match pistols. It had a slight dirt and heat discoloration when I sold it. Not bad, but if you knew it was there.....

I had a pair of the match SS USP pistols... one on 9mm and one in 45acp. They were beautiful to look at and hold... but in the end every time I cleaned them after shooting at the range I held my breath. I decided to stay with all black HK pistols from that point on. I also had a 45 USP compact SS but let it go too when I sold the match pistols. I think the two tone look is attractive but a little too blingy for me to worry about cleaning them and I just don't buy safe queens any more.

I like the SS models. But they stay in the safe more than my Elite 9mm.
And yes, without the weight the Elite is not a work of art. But with it, I consider it a thing of beauty.

I know I am in the minority probably but I think the Elite is a work of art all by itself... I love them. Great looking firearm by the way... those Merkle weights are very nice.

Thanks @dirtyharriett
I agree I still like the Elite even without the weight. I was not knocking it. I do think it looks better with the weight, but I’m not going to turn it away without one.

Wow.. finally someone with more Elites than I have. I have 4 of them... 2 in 9mm... 2 in 45acp. I have never shot a more accurate pistol than the HK USP Elite... I just love them.

@dirtyharriett the display looks Great

I admit I have an HK addiction. I’m seeking treatment at the LGS, every time a new one comes in.
Doc
Doc... thanks for the compliment. I work really hard on my displays because I spend so much time in that room. It is my sanctuary... my place to kick back... relax and watch something if I am in the mood. Most times I just go in there and stare at the walls... fun times.

USP Expert and SS slide models - why did they get rid of them?

Because they wouldn't sell. Back in the day they were anchors nobody wanted. I remember HK dumping elites on CDNN who was trying to sell them for $740 dealer IIRC. Had to give them away damn near. This whole elite love thing that's been going on is just like the roller gun thing, nobody wanted them until they were gone/banned. Now everyone wants some.

It's a love/hate thing obviously. Personally I like the 2 tone look, the USP SS were always great looking pistols IMO. Easy to clean and maintain also.
I just had my VP9 slide done in Nickel Boron
