I believe it’s plastic- i put a magnet to it and it did not stick..Appears to be--- even the "H" buffer.
Is the back plate metal or plastic?

@JohnnyI have never seen a HK stock, collapsible or fixed, with a plastic back plate
you will also notice that the lever/cap system is different on the early vs later style stocks as well as some of the later style stock having an extra sling loop on the right side. I think @AGG can document the timeframe but as I believe this was after the action-3 changes were introduced and carried on into the F series stocks
I don't have specifics, but that would make sense--- my best guess would be @ 1999.you will also notice that the lever/cap system is different on the early vs later style stocks as well as some of the later style stock having an extra sling loop on the right side. what you are alluding to isn't a back plate, but a proactive cover, that is separate part altogether and is installed after the back plate. and yes there are 2 variations of those; metal and plastic............but there is no such animal as a plastic back plate
The part where i am referring to which is “plastic” is the part where the buttpad touches the shoulder. I put a magnet to it and it didnt stick. Im pretty sure that part is german because its one piece where the stamp is at the corner of that section as wel
