Off to Modern Cylinder Head, to run-up my new engine. This is to make sure nothing is a problem, check for leaks, and get some horsepower and torque specs. This is the biggest one we've built for myself, but is also probably the most demure in nature. The intake manifold and carbs will be the "cork", but this is meant to fit under a stock hood. A tunnel-ram and dominator carbs would probably be worth another 100-150 horsepower. 578cid. 93-octane fuel. We'll see where she lands on the dyno sheets. Previous engines, have been very good for using pump-gas. I'm gonna guess...840hp and 700 lb-ft. More pictures to come....

Okay, we need to make a manifold change. It has far too small a plenum. It ran outta air and started to nose-over at 6200rpms [needs to spin 7K+]. As we loosened the lash, it acted like a crutch for the manifold. [picked-up 5 hp] It made well over 700 torque from 4200-6200. It's a torque-beast. We're changing manifolds in the next two days, and gonna tug it again. The idea is to keep it under the hood of a car without a scoop. I have several tunnel-rams.....but that's not the plan. It would make 900-1000 with the taller/big plenum manifolds.

Sounds awesome.

Thats awesome. I dropped off a ZZ502 for a refresher yesterday with my builder. Nothing like what you've got there, but I'm hoping for 600hp. It's going in a 65 Corvette Convertible I'm working on. Original 396 car.

Sweet sled.

A '67 440 Coronet? WOW! Not many of those alive anymore... actually, there weren't many of those sold in the first place! Dodge's dragster for the street if I recall correctly.

I don't think I've ever seen a drag car body that nice. What color is that? It looks like silver with a hint of mint green. Beautiful car. She's a head turner for sure.

That must be one incredible car to drive.

Thank you for the kudos. It's actually a 1 of 55, factory, hemi, S/S package dragcar[WO23J]. These went to the factory teams, for the most part. They initially had no titles[racecar], all ended up with them over 50 years. I rebuilt this one, from a really used-up shell. We used the sheetmal from two other cars I imported from AZ and NM. This is my "exactly how I want it" car. It took 6 years, and lots of blood, sweat, and tears [along with my entire ability to make enough money] to finish it. It's had 3 engines and transmissions, as everytime a new racecar car along...we'd use the combo outta here, and build a new combo. It's House of Kolor paint, and the green you're seeing is actually from the lawn. It's kandy basecoat [which is basicly clear and metallics] with clear over it. Almost zero pigments at all. The paint looks different, in every lighting. It goes from dull gray in the shade, to blinding/almost chrome in the brightest sun. The chassis is a moly/legal NHRA S/S car. Many good friends did the work on the car, that needed to be done professionally. I could do an hour post on this car and the build, but that'd be stupid.

Here's the car in 67....

1 of 55 factory Hemi. Amazing car and history! Thank you for sharing!

That paint is absolutely amazing!

Thanks again...
They were pretty boring when built. There were 55 Dodges/WO23, and 55 Plymouths/RO23. They were all white with black interiors. The only difference in them was either an auto or 4-speed. Initially built for Stock-Eliminator, NHRA stuck it to Chrysler, changed their minds... and put the cars in Super-Stock, where they weren't really a stand-out performer, or the intended class they were built for. They didn't have any lightweight parts, and just had blue-printed street-hemi engines [not race-hemi engines], unlike earlier and later Chrysler factory S/S packages. These cars were forgotten about for many years by collectors. I've had 3 of the Dodges, and 1 Plymouth. When I attended the 50-Year Reunion at Carlisle, I had the only dodge in attendance. There were several Plymouths.
