We had to put our Fuzzy-Girl down tonight. She was 14 1/2, and we would have had her 5 years on April 1st [she was 9 1/2 when I got her]. I rescued her from Zanesville Ohio. She was the most stubborn Husky we've rescued over the last 35 years.
She was wonderful, and definitely had the Alpha mentality. She also didn't want another fuzzy room-mate. She's been thru an awful lot over the last 2 years, and it was time to let her be in peace. She was the oldest we've rescued, and had the shortest amount of time. That had no bearing on the impact she had on us. She was wonderful. Anyways, she passed very peacefully, and we'll miss her tremendously. On the way home, I stopped for a double of Vodka, for our Siberian. We love you Mishka, and will miss you, something terrible.

I feel you. I hope happy memories will comfort you during this difficult time.

Thanks guys. It was late last night, but this morning is tough. Eveything, seems wrong....
Here is our bittersweet wall of rescued kids....

Things are worse. The house feels without life or soul, and I/we haven't been without a dog in our lives since at least 1987. I'm ready to save another. My wife will take some pushing....

Sorry for your loss Mike. A good looking dog. My dog is on the way out pretty soon. 14 years also. For a German Shepherd is pretty long

Yeah, it sucks. I started rescuing in `87. It's what I do. It'll probably be my bargaining chip with St. Peter....lol. I miss Mishka terribly, and we got her cremated remains back 2 days ago. Not to dismiss or forget any of our Fuzzy-Kids, because we never could...but I'm making a roadtrip from Detroit to Norfolk Va. next weekend. I already talked with the current owner, and their situation requires them to give up her baby. They've run out of options, and were gonna take her to the shelter. NOPE! The owner and I have an agreement, and she'll be moving to a place with 4 seasons and a place to run-safely. [Unlimited love is a little bonus]
I'll be going with my BF and FFL, to do a 3-4 day DC excursion and dog rescue. Him and I went to get Mishka, and have been talking about getting outta town for a few days, for years.
It used to be awhile ago, that 10,000 dogs a day are destroyed in America. {thanks to breeders/money, and SHS [stupid humans syndrome]. We don't offset it much, but Rhonda and I do what we can.

This is a bittersweet thing. I still get very emotional about Mishka.

The last red one we had, was 4 when I got her. She was the happiest dog we've ever had. When I rescued her, she was 15ibs under weight, intestinal parasites, kennel-cough, and when we took her to be fixed, they x-rayed her. Her left side from nose to butt, was full of #8 shot. The shelter was about 15 minutes from I-75 in Gladwin. When we pulled onto 75, she rode the entire way home with her head on my right shoulder [over 3 hours]. She was so full of love, and just an amazing girl. She made it to 18 years old.

EDIT...Eden is absolutely wonderful. She must have been really ignored in her situation. She hasn't missed her old home for one second. Not a peep for over 10 hours+ on her way home. We stopped 4-5 times for fuel and to walk her. Drove thru that snow in the Pa. mtns, before it hit the coast.

This past Saturday and Sunday, were a road-trip mission. I wanted to have ATI freshen-up my Turbo 400. They're never open on weekends. I was talking with Stephanie at ATI, about sending it in. I mentioned that I was headed to Norfolk Va, to pick up a rescue dog, and that Baltimore was about 2/3 of the way to Va. She did some asking, and it turned out that 3 employees were gonna be there to do some catch-up work till 11am. So, Sat morning, we left at 2am from north of Detroit to Baltimore. We arrived at 10am, and I can't say enough about that company. EVERYBODY is polite and friendly...and they make some of the best products in drag-racing. Dropped the trans for work, grabbed a bunch of stickers, and headed to Norfolk. Both trips, to and from...I was doing 85mph where traffic was allowing it, I spent 27 hours driving, total for both days.

We got to Norfolk at about 3pm, and relaxed before heading out for a couple cocktails and a pretty good dinner. Dealing with the woman who owned the dog was easy. Her hispanic husband was a major dick [machismo crap]. We had planned on leaving as early as possible. He HAD to be there for us to pick up the dog. So, we met outside their condo and weren't there a minute. He came outside handed me the leash, and walked away. Total dickhead. We never even saw the woman who I'd been in contact with, for weeks. So "Eden" happily jumped into my minivan, and made the entire ride home, without a noise. She was happy, but very demur. We stopped 4-5 times on the way home, and I could tell she had been ignored for quite some time. She's been here for about 18 hours, and has shown zero-signs of missing anything from before that time. She's beautiful, smart, loving, extremely fast and athletic. However, she hasn't been very responsive to anything anybody wants. She has to settle in, and we have to start getting her to respond to basic commands. When she wants something, she's a lot smarter than when she doesn't. She knows sit, shake, and stuff she's rewarded for....Otherwise, she's thinking she's the boss. I'll fix that. There's a lot more to her story, that plays into the behavior. She needs attention and direction.

So folks, our newest orphan...."Eden"....

This is the first rescue we've gotten baby-pictures of, in 35 years. Only because we now know the entire history of Eden.
I was laughing in my office, when these were text to me. My wife thought I'd lost my mind....I don't use the word "cute" often, but.....
