Here is my HK 770 and my thumb hole stock.

New here and not sure how many pictures I can attached, but here goes. I made this on a stock duplicator machine that I built and machined my self. I originally made it to make a thumb hole stock for my HK 630. I first made a master from maple for the HK 630. Then for the 770, I filled in the action with resign and inletted it for the 770.

I'm working on another HK 770 stock now for an individual. He wanted a more contemporary stock. So I'm using an old Remington 700 stock as a template. First I had to mill out the action and bed it to the HK 770 barreled action. Then I had to build up the sides around the action because the Rem 700 stock was not thick enough for the HK 770 action. What a PITA! Its getting close to a ready template to reproduce into an HK 770 stock.

So do you have like, a pattern, diagram, or is it just trial and error?
{Oh....and don't worry, I'm not trying to poach your idea, everyone here knows I'm mechanically stupid}

I truly admire what you've done thus far.

Well my machine is a duplicator, so I need a pattern to copy. For my HK 770, I used a master that I made for my HK 630. I made it out of maple. I just lengthen the action area for the HK 770. Now I'm making another stock for a HK 770, but I'm using a Remington 700 stock. Milled out the action area and then bedded the HK 770 action to the stock, sounds easy but it was a PITA. Bed mill, bed mill. Then I had to build up the outside area around the front of the action it wasn't thick enough. I used layers of 1/16th balsa wood, easy sanding, and blended them in. Also used Bondo as a filler. A couple of weeks and I'll be cutting the stock. I want to get the pattern as perfect as possible.

Here is two threads on a stock that I made for my Ruger American Rimfire 17HMR. It came with an ugly plastic stock. I used a busted stock from a Win 670, I think, as a master.

Made New Walnut Stock for Ruger American Rimfire .17HMR

Time to Checker A Stock that I made this Spring
