It’s been a long week, and even longer because I was working a deal with a guy here in Ohio and wasn’t sure if it was a legit deal or not, given the amount of internet scams BUT.....here is my damn near new condition BPP HK23EK!!!! I can’t wait to light it up with one of my post sample trigger packs! When I do I’ll post videos of it.

Needless to say, my big spending days are done for a good while. Between the pre sample Thompson, pre sample BAR and now this Hk23EK....yeah all the money I was ahead after selling some stuff off, well it’s damn near all gone LOLD99F14C2-87FD-469D-B494-B3EB1C82BDF1.jpeg

It was there and now I’m working on it. Have a drag issue when the belt is loaded into the feed box. I think I have a bent feed way cover. When I cycle the bolt it’s fine with no belt but soon as I put a belt in and go to chamber a round, the gun will strip the round from the link and start to load it. Gun stops 1/2 was out of battery, locking up. Soon as I drop the feed assembly down it will go home. There is a tolerance stacking somewhere, now I just gotta find it.

Talked to a friend last night and I think we found the issue-the pic with the red circle is mine, and the pic with the blue is his...notice the lifter has been modified on my feed mec? I’ll be ordering one today and hope to have it in this weekend.

@Grease Gunner I hope its not an expensive and it solves the issues you’re having!!!
I would be pretty upset and down about everything.... until of course its fixed.!!!!!😡
But brother... thats an amazing looking weapon!!!!😎

I think your riser is good, its your sprocket wheel that may be out of sync. Notice my MM23E sprocket' teeth are almost at the 12 o'clock position; same as your friend's one (circled with blue). I assume the 'E' regardless of manufacturer, uses the same feed mechanism design.

I’ll double check my feed wheel timing. I’ve been finding all sorts of little things but no “smoking gun” as it were that makes the thing work. It’s still locking up. I found I had a slightly out of spec bolt carrier, fixed that, polished the top cover inside feed edge, removed a couple burrs/excess metal left at the trunnion area when it was installed, and now I found another issue....when testing the feeding I only locked the feed mech in with just the latch, not the front pin and latch both. When I dropped the bolt and it locked up (like normal it seems) I pulled the feed mech down and the bolt stayed locked!! I started looking at it looks like the inner receiver rails are out of spec (too tight) or the rollers are coming out after stripping the round from the link and they are dragging to a halt. I found that it’s locking up right after the round is stripped so it could be that the rollers are deploying with the tension put against the head when the round is pushed out of the link.

Thoughts??

I’m closer to the end result. Found the trunion had a tight spot where the bolt was hanging up. I added just enough clearance where the bolt head passes through from the rails to the trunion.

Now that I have it cycling and firing (test fired it finally)

A new issue has come to my attention that I wouldnt have known until it was firing-the plunger that rides in the feed advance slot on the bottom of the bolt carrier is popping out after 2-3 rounds. Someone ground on it and it’s now short and not staying in the slot. Easy enough fix as I’ll be picking up a piece of drill rod tomorrow at work. One step closer to a fully functional weapon.

Thats awesome, at least you figured it out... congratulations!!!

Update-and btw my neighbors in my little country town are wondering what lives at my house....

I got home from work last night and made a new feed roller/plunger as the original one had been ground on. Fitted it up to allow the maximum engagement or full depth of the feed slot in the BCG. Went to the range and the gun functioned but found my new part was just a touch too big in diameter (made it .235 aka 6mm) and it was actually grinding while trying to work. I took it back apart, took a few .001 off (made it .232) put it all back together and by this time it was 7:30 aka dark here in Ohio....so....I went into my backyard as I’m in rural Ohio but have a few neighbors around. Put a belt in the gun, dropped the bolt , bumped the bolt assist, then ran 20 rounds flawlessly in semi and then flipped it to full and began to run a few bursts. Found an issue as the sear trip was hanging up on the BCM, but that can be handled with just some minor fitting, which I did. When I finished my 40 rounds or so, I start walking back to the house from the field I was shooting in, and I see my neighbor leaning out the door watching me walk back to the house. Guess it was a little bit loud.....LMAO

This afternoon I’ll be back to the range and try another belt. Damn it’s close.....

Thats awesome... the look on the neighbors face!!! 😂
Glad you got it working!!!!
I would Get your neighbors thoughts and impression of what they saw and felt!!! It would make for a great follow up post!!!
