Greetings,

I want to make sure I have my head around this.. What I reading is that these are all dried up and 10 years ago they were selling for $2-2.5K THEN but now they would sell for as much as folks would be willing to pay.. $4K.. 5K? Gotta love supply and demand. When I did a bit of digging, I saw that one of the big gun/surplus sites had the Bundeswehr surplus Z24s for $399.. then I looked further down in the link, and it was posted 170 months ago... 14 years...HA

A few questions for my own education if you don't mind.

The ones above are NOT German Army surplus... There were just made for private purchase?

No, they just weren't made for the German Army. H&K made them (or more correctly had them made) for sale to other people who bought guns from them. Not everyone who bought say, HK33's bought scopes.
As of a few days ago, I see the Bundeswehr surplus ones selling on a few sites for anywhere from $800-1500 depending on condition and accessories.

True. Bear in mind not all of what you'll see for these are 3rd model, some are 1st and 2nd, not the final evolution of the Z24.
The ones I posted were "special order"? Which is what makes them so rare and expensive? And why the fakers are taking the easier to get/lower cost surplus one and trying to mark them up to look like these to get the "unobtainium" prices..
1) No. 2) The fact of how many there are. 3) Because they can make money that way from the unwary. They can't remove the Z24 markings but they can make a .223 marked turret cap (there never were any .223 caps, only marked 5.56) and put it on there.
The one marked "9SD" .. I assume that was for the HK MP5 SD.. which is different than what Lamont posted above concerning the "9 NATO"..
Yes.
Have you all seen the "9 SD" marked one before?
Yes. I had one for my SD, sourced from a guy in Australia who got his hands on 5-6 IIRC when they were surplus'd off by the Australian unit that had some SD's, he was able to buy them due to being connected to those folks. I seem to recall I bought more than one from him and just resold the extra's. For me the SD with it's .380 ballistics and lack of accuracy to be fulfilling that "suppressed 100m sniper" thing got old once I figured it out by actually doing it vice reading what other people who never had wrote, (that system hasn't been the best thing around for the purpose since the .300 Whisper, now known as the .300 AAC Blackout first came along in the early 90's) both my SD and the scope got sold LONG time ago. My '91 as well. The only H&K I own personally at the moment are a USP Compact 9 and a USP .45. Being in the business I tend to acquire cool guns that I own for a while and then sell when I remind myself that I'm in business and that past that I'm an End User, not a collector. It's a conversation I had to have with myself years ago when the safes were too full and "baby needed new shoes".
Thanks for sharing your experience/knowledge with a "newbie"...

No problem.

thanks.. The part that still baffles me is that these were sold for $2500ish a Decade ago.. so now.. as you say are "unobtainium" these days.. What have you Or anyone else seen these sell for recently?.. in this minty condition with the illuminators, box and other goodies? Or they have dried up so much that none are hitting the open market? I may buy a few to beat my returns on my 401K... HA

Im seeing just the illuminators are a few hundred bones...?

I just don't see any for sale any more. My take is that people who have one don't resell it. There aren't any further supplies so folks who own one offering it for sale is the totality of what will ever be available.

Originals maybe. I only ever found one. There were after market available in Europe, again 10 years ago but they aren't going to keep making those if no one ever buys them, so.....

Well, certainly not that first batch, since that is my Post Sample MP5SD, on my ERDL Green Dominant poncho liner.... ;-D

But yeah, the other stuff looks good too. The illuminator looks like one of the aftermarket that takes a AAA battery, the originals are shorter and take a different battery.
