I came home from work today and right to the shop I went (thanks to the shipment of flats coming in today from RTG) Prep’d the flat, rolled it, pressed in the barrel, head spaced it, welded the flat up, fit the trunnion and barrel in, then welded up the shroud. 4 1/2 hours later here we are......my prototype MP5SD-Hybrid.....all that I have left to do is fit up the magazine release, put in the paddle release, weld on the shelf, dress up the welds and shoot it! I should have live fire testing by this time tomorrow....

I have pictures of it with a Gemtech
Multi-Mount and a Gemtech Lunar 9 in the short configuration....thoughts??

Not to sound like an ass but how do I make it look easy? Lol

Just wait til I get it done and put it side by side with my TPM SDK suppressor.

Just finished testing and here are the results. The true SD ported Barrel makes a touch less noise BUT produces more gas to the face vs the Hybrid. I have another suppressor coming to try on said Hybrid and in theory it should be less noise as the suppressor is bigger in diameter, meaning more volume for gas to expand.

Used my old tried and true Gemtech Multi-Mount for the demo. I have another suppressor coming that is bigger in diameter so it should make less noise as it will allow for better expansion. We will see.

Most excellent. ;)

Looks good. My second SD build was an SD-K hybrid.

Wrapping up more range testing....I tried the following locking pieces in the MP5SD-Hybrid and found that the 100 and 115 degree are almost identical in preformance. The 80 degree gave very weak ejection. The following video is with a 100 degree locking piece running 147 grain WWB ammunition. I’m pleased with the results.

I now have 600 rounds flawlessly through the MP5SD-Hybrid. I shot it next to a friend using a 9mm pistol with a suppressor and the same ammunition, the results were identical. That was a good reference. I used a couple other 3 lug suppressors on it and they made a little less noise, then again that poor
Multi-Mount has roughly 20k-25k of 9mm out of it so I’m sure it’s lost it’s perfect suppression.

The Hybrid was engraved and got some color last night. I’ll put it together after work today and zero it.

Trying out the Aluma-Hyde finish from Brownell’s. I’m curious as to how well it holds up.

Excellent work--- that color is reminiscent of the early HK black finish (circa, 1974- early 1976). ;)

I'm looking forward to getting off work so I can go home and put it all back together. I'll post pics once I do.....I also need to put it on paper and actually zero it. That being said I put the rear sight on, cranked it to what looked like it was centered and I was shooting clay birds off the berm at 50 yards consistant......I'd say it shoots pretty decent. I'm waiting for suppressors to come in so I can continue testing out which would be the best one for the Hybrid project (and most cost effective for the comsumer)

Here it is all back together. Now let’s see if I can make it to the range tonight to try it.
