On the left, very true what you say.
On the right, there were a number of traditional republicans who disliked Trump for very different reasons than those driving the hatred from the left. Be careful not to throw them in with those on the left who hate Trump with a foaming at the mouth sort of passion.
The thing that Trump is really good at and republicans are generally really bad at is spotting, understanding, and leveraging popular culture trends. From that point of view, I think he did make a good president, because he did understand what the voters wanted. Had the political middle not been thoroughly sick of the daily, gradeschool level back and forth between the liberal legacy media and Trump, I think he would have beat the pants off Biden in 2020.
That is, assuming Biden was even wearing pants of course.
And I do agree that Trump is far more like Churchill than he is like any recent republican president. I'm not sure even Churchill could have survived in the current media/internet environment.
Good post.
My comments...
Trump is/was a centrist. The fact that the moderates didnt vote for him in 2020 had little to do with them not recognizing that he represented them. It also might’ve annoyed moderates that his grade school drama with the legacy media was exhausting. But I think neither were heavy factors.
I think, because I’ve had a LOT of moderates & conservatives admit this to me privately, that people ultimately turned on Trump because they buckled to the hostage situation that was c19.
Purely anecdotal but I’ve had so many admit this to me, that I think it was the deciding factor in the election. Not the fraud. And not Trump’s war with media.
C19 was essentially a hostage situation. With the establishment saying, “vote Biden and life will go back to normal”. That was Biden’s lone tangible campaign promise.
30% of the American workforce are moms. That’s 30% of the American workforce that were unable to work because they had to homeschool their kids.
That’s a lot of marriages that were under serious duress as all the financial burden was put on the men. That’s a lotta women that were forced into being moms for the first time in their lives that either never really wanted that full responsibility, or because their man did not earn enough, the women were forced to work.
We’re talking maybe 20+ million households that were losing faith in Trump’s ability to get ahead of this thing. He had all of 2020 - and could not combat the media onslaught that was the scamdemic.
Considering that most conservatives thought c19 was a scam from the beginning... it’s basic deductive reasoning that they did the math and concluded that if the Democrats get their way, c19 will end right?
So, many buckled in that ballot box. Women wanted to go back to work. Many NEEDED to go back to work. They did what nearly every person does at election time - they voted with their wallets in mind.
Women lie to their men all the time without their men ever knowing. Their decision in the ballot box alone would’ve been one of the easier moments to hide their actions.
Trump didnt just lose moderates on this hostage situation issue. He lost conservatives in droves also.
Just my theory. I’ll never be able to prove it. And my sample size of asking people privately whom they voted for is too small to be a legitimate poll. But large enough in the context of one person asking 50+ conservatives this question.
